Quick answer
We deliver from our Berkshire Park depot and confirm four things before booking the run: the entry width, the overhead clearance on the route in, the ground surface, and where the machine will be unloaded. The truck and the machine have separate access needs, so a site can have easy truck access and an impossible route to the work, or the reverse. Approved customers can collect the lighter machines on a suitable trailer. Off-hire starts when you tell us the job is finished, not when the truck arrives.
Delivery is where a hire either goes smoothly or does not go at all. Everything on this page comes from one principle: the questions get asked before the truck is loaded, not at the kerb.
Written for whoever is coordinating the site. Machine weights and trailer figures come from the specification sheets on file.
Delivery access and machine access
A delivery has two separate access questions, and a site can pass one and fail the other.
- Truck access: somewhere legal and safe to stop, overhead clearance to raise the tilt tray, and a firm, level area to unload onto.
- Machine access: the route the machine travels from the unloading point to the work area, measured at its tightest point: the gate, the door, the corridor, the goods lift.
Overhead power lines are the hard stop for the truck: a tilt tray needs real height above it, and nothing gets unloaded under a line. Low branches, awnings, shade sails, car park height bars and a soft verge are the other four we meet most often. A photo taken from where you expect the truck to stop answers all of them at once. For the machine route, take the measurements in the site measurement guide or run them through the doorway and access checker.
What do you need from me to book a delivery?
The site address, a contact who will be there, the delivery window that suits the work, and enough about the access to plan the run: the entry width, anything overhead on the way in, the surface, and where the machine can be unloaded.
If the site has an induction, a permit, a loading dock booking or after-hours access rules, that is part of the same conversation. So is the machine itself. Send it all through the quote form and it goes onto the run in one pass. What the transport costs, and why, is in scissor lift delivery costs.
How does delivery actually work?
The machine leaves Berkshire Park on a truck, checked and serviced by the workshop with its logbook aboard. The driver confirms the route, unloads at the agreed point, walks the machine to where it needs to be if the route allows, and gives a familiarisation on the controls and the emergency lowering before leaving. The short version of the day is in how access equipment delivery works.
Collection after off-hire runs the same way in reverse.
What happens if the machine cannot reach the work area?
We find out before delivery, which is the entire point of the access questions. If the route is too tight for the machine you have asked for, we tell you and offer a narrower or tracked one instead.
If it is discovered on the day, the machine goes back on the truck and the run has to be redone with a different machine, which costs you time and costs us a delivery. That is the outcome the measurements exist to prevent.
Can I collect the machine myself?
Customer pickup is offered as approved machine and trailer packages, not machine by machine. Whether a package is approved for you depends on three things: the machine weight, your trailer and tow vehicle ratings, and your licence and load restraint.
Here is where our machines sit against the rated load of our Brian James DP35 plant trailer, which carries 2,736 kilograms on a 3.7 by 1.7 metre bed with a 3,500 kilogram ATM.
| Machine | Weight | Within the DP35 rated load |
|---|---|---|
| JLG ES1932, 19ft electric scissor | 1,550 kg | Yes |
| LGMG SC0610EL-2, 22ft tracked scissor | 1,600 kg | Yes |
| LGMG S0607E II, 19ft electric scissor | 1,610 kg | Yes |
| Zoomlion ZS0612C, 19ft tracked scissor | 1,820 kg | Yes |
| Zoomlion ZS0808AC, 26ft narrow scissor | 2,090 kg | Yes |
| LGMG S1212E-2, 40ft electric scissor | 2,940 kg | No, exceeds the rated load |
| LGMG SR1018D, 32ft rough terrain scissor | 4,330 kg | No, delivery only |
| LGMG AR11J, 34ft knuckle boom | 5,400 kg | No, delivery only |
Being within the trailer rating is necessary, not sufficient. Your tow vehicle has to be rated for the combined mass and you need to be licensed for it. We confirm all of it before approving a pickup. The detail, including restraint, is in collecting a scissor lift on a plant trailer.
What trailer and tow vehicle do I need?
A plant trailer rated above the machine weight with room for the machine footprint, ramps rated for it, and a tow vehicle whose towing capacity and combined mass rating cover the loaded trailer. Load restraint is your responsibility and it needs to be compliant, not improvised. Run your vehicle through the trailer and tow vehicle checker first.
If you are hiring one of our trailers with the machine, we match them for you. Browse trailers and the machine and trailer packages.
What do I need to do before the truck arrives?
Clear the unloading area and the route. Unlock the gates. Have the contact on site and reachable. Know where the machine will live overnight, and where it charges if it is electric.
If the machine has to cross a lawn, pavers, a soft verge or anything else that matters to the client, say so before the run rather than after. That often changes which machine we send, and sometimes means ground protection you arrange.
How does delivery work on a construction site?
Site rules first. Induction requirements, a delivery window that fits the site traffic management plan, a gate that is manned, and someone to receive the machine. Many sites will not accept a delivery outside a booked slot.
Tell us the requirements when you book and we will work to them. What we cannot do is turn up unannounced and expect a site to fit us in.
How does delivery work at a warehouse or a shopping centre?
Through the dock, usually, and usually to a booking. Shopping centres almost always require a dock booking, after-hours access for anything going into a trading area, and a permit for work at height in a public space.
The machine also has to fit the goods lift if it is going above ground level. Send us the lift car dimensions, door opening and rated load along with the work height, and check the stowed height on the machine’s page as well as its width. Stowed heights differ by model, so read the figure for the machine you are hiring rather than assuming.
Do you deliver to rural and regional NSW?
Yes. Berkshire Park sits on the edge of the Hawkesbury, and long driveways, farm gates, unsealed tracks and cattle grids are ordinary work for us rather than an exception.
What we need is a description of the last few hundred metres: the surface, the width, any grid or gate, and whether a rigid truck can turn around at the far end. We cover Windsor and Richmond, the Hills District, Penrith, the Central Coast and regional NSW beyond.
When off-hire takes effect
Off-hire is a step you take, not something that happens when the job finishes. Under the Master Hire Agreement (clause 17.2), hire charges continue until the machine is properly off-hired with us and is available for collection, clean, accessible, safe to collect and in acceptable condition. To off-hire, contact us directly and obtain an off-hire number or confirmation. Ceasing to use the machine, leaving it on site, telling another contractor or assuming we know the job is finished does not end the hire (clause 17.3).
Once you have the confirmation we schedule the collection. Park the machine at the agreed collection point, lowered, with the keys where we have arranged. If it cannot be moved back to the collection point, tell us when you off-hire so the right vehicle comes. Setting the dates so the off-hire falls on the right day is covered in how to plan your equipment hire duration.
What should be with the machine when it is collected?
The keys, the charger if one went out with it, the logbook, and any attachment or extension that came with the hire. Batteries should be on charge if the machine has been sitting.
Report any damage, fault or incident when you off-hire rather than leaving it for us to find. A fault we know about is a service job; a fault we discover on the next pre-delivery check is a machine that misses its next booking.
Next step
Measure the route with the doorway and access checker, then send the site details and we will quote the machine and the delivery together. If you are considering collecting the machine yourself, tell us your vehicle and trailer and we will confirm which package suits.
Trailers and pickup packages
Pickup eligibility depends on your vehicle rating and licence as well as the machine weight.

- Road / hard standing
Why it may suit: Brian James Eco Plant 2 plant trailer, the trailer we tow our compact scissor lifts on, available with an approved customer pickup.
Worth checking: Approved customer pickup only — we check the tow vehicle, licence class and towing capacity first. Load restraint is the tower responsibility. Machine and trailer combined weight must be inside the vehicle rating. Brian James Eco Plant2 trailers are rated 2,600 kg ATM; the deck is 2.3 x 1.1 m or 2.5 x 1.5 m and the tare about 400-440 kg (carrying capacity about 2,160-2,200 kg) depending on version, so the figures on this trailer's plate govern.
Matched on verified fields: Terrain. Site access, ground conditions and dates still need checking against your job.
Suitability is subject to site access, ground conditions and availability. We confirm the machine against your job before hire.
