What diesel rough terrain scissor lifts are for

Diesel rough terrain scissor lifts work outdoors on ground that would stop a slab machine. Lugged tyres, ground clearance and four wheel drive get them across site dirt, gravel and grades, and a diesel refuels and keeps going instead of stopping to charge.

Typical jobs

  • Construction sites before the slab
  • External cladding and structural steel
  • Facade and window work off compacted ground
  • Civil and infrastructure work
  • Large outdoor maintenance jobs

Sizes and figures across this category

Measured across the machines currently available for hire in this category. Where a specification is not recorded we leave it out rather than estimate it.

Working height
11.58 to 17.98 m

Platform height plus about 2 m for a person on the platform. Indicative, and not a safe working limit.

Platform height

The platform floor at full elevation. The feet figure in a machine name is this one.

Machine width
1750 to 2300 mm

Measured across the machine. Add a working clearance before comparing it to an opening.

A Confirm mark means the decisive figure is not on that record. Open the machine for the full seven-question panel and its manufacturer sheet; we never guess a specification.

Ground, access and licences

The three things that decide whether a machine can actually do your job, answered before you get to the quote form.

Ground it works on

Compacted site ground, gravel, hardstand and grades within the machine rating. Lugged tyres mark and tear finished surfaces, and the engine rules out enclosed spaces, so these are outdoor machines. Wet or filled ground still needs assessing: a rough terrain rating is not a licence to drive anywhere.

Access and the route in

These are the widest and heaviest machines in the scissor range, so the constraint is usually the site entry and the ground bearing rather than a doorway. Tell us the gate width and whether the delivery truck can reach a firm, level unloading point.

Licences and training

Scissor lifts and vertical mast lifts are not boom type platforms, so no High Risk Work Licence applies to them in NSW at any height. Machines in this category reach 11.58 to 17.98 metres working height, and that does not change the answer.

Sites normally require recognised EWP operator training, commonly asked for as a Yellow Card, together with a site induction. The employer is responsible for verifying competency on the specific machine.

We can supply the machine specification sheet and risk assessment for your SWMS, and arrange a licensed operator with the machine if you would rather not operate it yourself.

Delivery and pickup

We deliver

Our depot is at Berkshire Park in Western Sydney and we deliver across Sydney and throughout NSW. Delivery is quoted with the hire, by suburb, access and the transport the machine needs, so you see one figure rather than a surprise on the invoice.

Tell us the tightest access width and whether a tilt tray can reach a firm, level unloading point.

Service and delivery areas

Or you collect

No machine in this category is currently approved for depot pickup. Approval needs a verified machine weight and a trailer rated to carry it, and where we do not hold both we deliver on our own truck instead of letting a customer find out on the ramp.

Advice for this category

Written by the people who deliver and service these machines.

Not sure which one?

Answer a few quick questions about the job, the height, the ground and the tightest opening. We match it against the recorded specifications of every machine we can verify, and show you what fits and what does not.

Questions we get asked

Answered from the recorded specifications of the machines above and from the rules that apply in NSW, not from a general article.

How high do these machines reach?

Working height across the diesel rough terrain scissor lifts we hire is 11.58 to 17.98 metres. Working height is where your hands reach, which is about two metres above the platform floor. Platform height is the deck itself, and it is the smaller figure in every specification.

How wide are they, and will one fit through a doorway?

Recorded machine width runs from 1750 mm to 2300 mm. That range covers the 7 of 8 machines here with a verified width; the others are not yet recorded, so they may be narrower or wider. Every recorded width is wider than a standard 820 mm internal doorway, so plan on a double door, a roller shutter or a wider opening unless we confirm a narrower machine. Measure the clear opening rather than the door frame, and tell us the tightest point on the whole route in.

How much do they weigh?

Between 3443 kg and 8045 kg for 5 of 8 machines here; the others are not yet recorded. Weight decides two things: whether the floor or ground carries the machine, and what has to be on site to unload it. Ask us for the figure for a specific machine if a slab rating or a suspended floor is involved.

How much can the platform carry?

Platform capacity is 365 kg to 680 kg, and that figure includes the people on the platform as well as their tools and materials. Where a machine has a deck extension, the capacity on the extension is lower than the capacity on the main deck.

Can I collect a machine myself?

Not in this category. Pickup is only approved where we hold a verified machine weight and a trailer rated to carry it, and no machine here currently meets both. These are delivered on our own truck, with delivery quoted by suburb.

How is delivery quoted?

By suburb, access and the transport the machine needs, quoted with the hire so you see one figure. Our depot is in Western Sydney at Berkshire Park and we deliver across Sydney and throughout NSW. Tell us the tightest access width and whether a tilt tray can reach a firm, level unloading point.
