Pickup may be available for Equip Hire’s 19ft electric scissor lifts when hired with a suitable Brian James trailer — and it can beat two delivery legs on price. But towing plant is regulated, and the numbers must work before you book.
The weight maths (non-negotiable)
- Machine weight — a 19ft electric scissor weighs roughly what a large car does. Confirm the exact figure with us.
- Trailer rating (ATM) — machine + trailer tare must sit under the trailer’s ATM. The DP35 and Eco Plant 2 have different ratings; match the machine to the right trailer.
- Vehicle’s braked towing capacity — from your vehicle handbook, not folklore. Many utes tow 3.5t braked; many SUVs don’t.
- Ball weight within the vehicle’s limit.
If any number fails, it’s delivery — no exceptions, because the failure mode is a machine on the road.
Licence and equipment
A standard car licence covers most of these combinations in NSW (check GVM/GCM for your setup). You need a suitable coupling, working trailer brakes and lights, and rated tie-down gear.
Loading and tie-down
Brian James trailers load with full-width ramps at a low angle. Drive on slowly, centred, machine stowed. Tie down at the machine’s designated lashing points with rated chains or straps — minimum four points, tensioned, rechecked after the first kilometres. We’ll walk you through it at the depot on first pickup.
When pickup beats delivery
Flexible timing, a suitable tow vehicle, and a job near your route home. When any of those is missing, suburb-quoted delivery is the better answer.
