Overview
The Almac Athena 870 BL EVO is a tracked scissor lift with proactive bi-levelling: it levels itself on its tracks, with no outriggers, and can keep driving while levelled on slopes and uneven ground. 7.9 m working height, 5.9 m platform floor and a 250 kg two-operator basket measuring a full 1.50 x 1.20 m, noticeably more room than the Athena 850BL. Bi-energy: it runs plugged in to 15 amp mains power, or on its separate Kubota Z482 diesel engine where there is no power on site. Levelling range is plus or minus 16 degrees longitudinal at the front, 20 degrees at the rear and 15 degrees laterally. 2,460 kg.
Most scissor lifts need level ground to work. Tracked machines with outriggers, such as the Zoomlion ZS0612C and LGMG SC0610EL-2, level themselves once parked and do not drive with the outriggers down. The Athena levels on its tracks instead, so the operator can move along a sloping driveway, embankment or uneven yard while the basket stays level. That saves the set-up and pack-up at every move on long runs of work.
The two levelling methods are compared in the tracked scissor lift hire guide and in tracked versus rough-terrain scissor lifts.
Both are Athena bi-levelling machines. The 870 BL EVO has the bigger basket, 1.50 x 1.20 m, which matters when two people work with tools and materials. The Athena scissor lift hire guide compares the two side by side.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but the service provided by Kay and Shev was amazing. I hired a tracked 19ft scissor lift and the whole process was easy from start to finish. The scissor lift was in great condition, clean, well maintained and worked exactly as it should. I decided to go with pickup as I ws in the area and it went smooth and everything was ready to go when I arrived. I’ve hired equipment plenty of times before where the trailer ends upp being the annoying part, either old, rough or not set up properly, but that wasn’t the case here at all. The trailer provided was in great condition and made transporting the machine simple and safe. Highly recommend Equip Hire for quick and reliable access equipment hire.
Equip Hire replied: Thanks heaps, Sahel. Really appreciate the detailed review, especially the note about the trailer, that makes a big difference when picking up a tracked 19 ft scissor lift. Glad Kay and Shev had everything ready and the whole hire was smooth from start to finish. If you need scissor lift hire, tracked scissor lift hire, or access equipment hire around Penrith, Minchinbury, Parramatta or wider Sydney again, we will look after you.

Where it works
Good to confirm: Tracked repositioning is slower than wheeled. Electric running is tethered and needs a 15 amp supply on a lead, because there is no on-board battery: if a 15 amp outlet is not within reach of the work area the machine runs on the Kubota diesel instead, so confirm the power before an indoor or enclosed job. Confirm the surface rating before tracking over finished ground. An online listing cannot replace a site assessment, so tell us the job and we will confirm suitability.
Decision panel
Seven questions about this job, answered from this machine's verified specifications. 14 of 16 figures are on file; 2 are still to confirm with the hire team.
A Confirm mark means the decisive figure is not on this record. Send us the site details and we will answer it before quoting; we never guess a specification.
Specifications
Grouped for quick scanning. A row appears once its figure is verified for this machine; anything not listed here is not yet on the record, and the Fit & access panel above marks it Confirm. The manufacturer spec sheet always takes precedence.
Drawn to scale from this machine's stored specifications. The manufacturer spec sheet (below) governs.
Transport
Swipe
Quoted by suburb, machine and access. We plan the truck, the unloading space and any overhead hazards before the run, tell us about docks, tight driveways and height limits when you book.
Customer pickup has not been confirmed for this machine. Delivery is quoted together with the hire; if you would rather collect, ask the team and they will confirm whether a trailer combination is approved for it.
Logistics
What we need from you, and what we take care of.
Swipe
Quoted by suburb, site access and transport requirements, the machine and the delivery are quoted together for your dates.
Tell us the narrowest gate, doorway or gap the machine must pass through and we will confirm the fit before it is loaded.
Scissor-type EWP. No high-risk work licence required in NSW; EWPA Yellow Card (SL) accepted competency. Diesel site rules apply.
Hire runs from delivery or pickup until off-hire is confirmed. Rates are quoted for your dates, suburb and machine together, see our hire terms for responsibilities during the hire.
Send your suburb, your dates and the tightest access width. We will confirm the machine and quote the delivery with it.
Power
Hybrid (bi-energy): an electric mode and a diesel engine.
Swipe
The supply this model needs for its electric mode is confirmed with your quote. Tell us what power is available on site and whether it is temporary site power.
Never run the ENGINE in an enclosed or poorly ventilated space. On electric there is no exhaust; whether electric mode suits an indoor job is confirmed with you.
Safety
Every Equip Hire machine is function-tested before it leaves the yard. The operator still checks it before each shift, tick these off as you go.
Swipe
Tag it out and call us on 0472 721 234. Never operate a machine with a known fault, we will repair or swap it.
Ticking here is a memory aid on your phone, nothing is stored. The machine’s own logbook and pre-start check sheet are the record. Based on the manufacturer’s daily check requirements and SafeWork NSW guidance for this kind of equipment.
Site prep
Five minutes of checking here is what keeps a delivery from becoming a return trip.
Swipe
Every gate, corridor and lift on the way to the work area. Handles, hinges, bollards and stored materials all eat clearance.
Tracks are gentle on surfaces, but confirm pavers, pit lids and irrigation lines on the route can take the machine’s weight.
Overhead services, sprinkler heads and light fittings at working height, and an exclusion zone for people below.
Room for the truck to stop and unload safely. Tell us about docks, driveways and height limits when you book.
Avoid
The things that most often send a machine back or hold up a job.
Swipe
Measure to the actual task height, then choose the machine. Nothing added “just in case”.
An 820 mm door leaf is not 820 mm of clear opening once the stop and hardware are counted. Measure the gap.
Wheeled machines rut turf and bog in soft ground. Say so when you book: a tracked machine may suit, after the ground is checked.
Shopping centres and managed sites need the paperwork approved before the truck arrives.
Working height is 7.9 m and the platform floor rises to 5.9 m. Working height is the platform height plus about 2 m for a person standing on the platform, which is how hire sizes are normally stated.
It is 1.3 m wide and 1.94 m long when stowed. We look for at least 50 mm of clearance beyond the machine width at each opening. Measure the narrowest point of the whole route, not just the final doorway: gates, door frames, corridors, lift cars and the turn in from a corridor, which needs more room than a straight approach.
Stowed (travel) height is 2.28 m. Check headroom along the route: door heads, roller doors, ducts, sprinklers and ramps.
Rated platform capacity is 250 kg. People, tools and materials all count.
A scissor lift goes straight up; the extension deck, where fitted, slides out over the front only. To work over an awning, a roof edge or plant, look at articulating boom lifts, which go up and out.
It is built for uneven or unlevel ground, dirt and light mud, and its non-marking tracks work on hard floors and slab too. Tracks do not make weak ground safe: soft, wet or recently filled ground, pits, trenches, edges and pavers over sand still need a ground-bearing check, and boards may be needed to avoid marking lawn or pavers. Check the floor or ground can carry its weight (see below).
It is rated for outdoor use. The maximum wind speed for this model is confirmed from its manual before outdoor work.
That is not permission to raise the platform on a slope: elevated work needs ground within the manufacturer's tilt limit, and the tilt alarm stops elevation beyond it.
This model has a levelling system: it can level its chassis on uneven ground within limits set in its manual. The ground must still be firm, and the levelling limits checked against your site.
It does not use outriggers. Allow a firm area for the delivery truck to unload close to where it will work.
It has two power modes: electric and a diesel engine. On electric there is no exhaust and it runs quietly; the engine is for outdoor, ventilated work only. Which mode suits your job, and the power supply it needs on site, is confirmed with the quote.
It weighs about 2,460 kg. Weight alone does not show whether a floor can take it: suspended slabs, mezzanines, pits, pavers and lift cars need their rating checked against the wheel or track loads in the manufacturer's data, by someone able to assess the structure.
Delivery is from our Berkshire Park depot. Delivery is quoted with the machine for your suburb, site access and hire dates. Customer pickup has not been approved for this machine, so plan on delivery.
For delivery, the truck needs a firm, clear area to unload close to the work, and someone on site to sign for the machine.
Transport is quoted separately for your suburb and site. A longer-term rate applies only when the hire runs for its minimum period; a shorter hire is quoted at the rate for its actual length.
No high risk work licence is needed for a scissor lift in NSW. Operators must still be trained and competent for this type of machine and familiarised with this model before use, and many sites ask for an industry card such as the EWPA Yellow Card plus their own induction. SafeWork NSW licence guidance.
The machine, your dates, the site suburb and anything that limits access: the narrowest opening, headroom, ground type and how high the work is. The team confirms availability for your dates and that the machine suits the site, then sends the quote with delivery. Nothing is booked until we confirm.
A hire can be extended. Call or email the team with your hire reference and the new finish date, and earlier is better because the machine may be committed to another job. Extra time is confirmed with you, and the rate for the longer period is confirmed with it: a change to the booking can mean the rate is revised, a minimum hire applies, or the correct rate for the actual hire period is used.
Hire charges run until the machine is properly off-hired with Equip Hire and is available for collection, clean, accessible and safe to collect. To off-hire you contact Equip Hire directly and get an off-hire number or confirmation back. Stopping work, leaving the machine on site, telling another contractor or assuming we know the job is finished does not end the hire. Charges stop at the confirmed off-hire, not on the day the truck happens to arrive, but they can continue if the machine is not accessible or ready when we come for it.

Working height, not platform height
Working height is 7.9 m (about 26 feet); the platform floor reaches 5.9 m (about 19 feet), the figure a size in feet usually names. Working height is what a person can reach standing on the platform, roughly two metres above the platform floor. Check which of the two figures a quote is using.
We check it is free and suits the site. Your name and a mobile or email is enough; the rest is optional.
