Choosing a Scissor Lift for Indoor Work

Indoor selection comes down to ceiling height, access widths, floor loading and power. Electric machines are the default; the rest is measurement.

Quick answer: For indoor work, start with an electric scissor lift: quiet, fume free and designed for firm level floors. Then let three measurements pick the model: the height you must reach, the narrowest access opening on the route, and the floor’s load limit. Why electric is the indoor default

Enclosed spaces rule out diesel exhaust, and occupied buildings usually rule out noise. Electric scissors solve both, and their non-marking tyres protect finished floors. Building managers commonly require electric machines indoors, so quoting anything else for indoor work needs a specific reason.

Three measurements that pick the machine

1. Reach height

Measure to the work, not the ceiling. If you are working on services above a ceiling grid, measure to the services. Compare against working height, and remember platform height sits about 2 metres lower.

2. Access route

3. Floor loading

Ground-bearing slabs rarely cause trouble, but suspended floors, mezzanines and lift cars have limits. Get the machine weight from the spec sheet and confirm it with the building before booking.

Practical limitations

  • Charging needs a standard outlet and a machine parked within cord reach overnight. Plan 8 hours of continuous charging.
  • Electric slab scissors are for firm level floors only. A gravel car park between buildings can stop an otherwise perfect plan.
  • Platform capacity covers people plus tools plus materials combined.

  • Floor type, and the limit for suspended floors or lifts
