Quick answer
List each handover stage with its date, the machines working in that area and the route out. Off-hire each machine when its area finishes rather than at the end of the job, and confirm collection access before the area is secured. Tell us the stages when you book so collection can follow them.
The problem
On staged projects, finished areas are cleaned, protected and handed to the client while other areas are still being built. A machine left in a handed-over area can be locked in, damage new finishes, or keep charging hire while nobody uses it.
Map the stages
| Stage | Handover date | Machines in the area | Route out | Off-hire call by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 or zone A | ||||
| Level 2 or zone B | ||||
| External works |
Off-hire by area, not by project
Call off-hire for each machine when its area finishes. Hire stops on the agreed off-hire date, and collection is arranged from there. If a machine moves to another area instead, tell us so the hire record follows it.
Check the route out before lock-up
- Doors and corridors still open, and protection not yet laid on the route
- Goods lift or ramp still available for the machine
- Truck access to the collection point, including any dock booking
- Machine lowered, charged or fuelled to the agreed level, keys with the site contact
Long programmes
On jobs that run for months, a longer hire rate may apply. See long-term hire and the hire duration guide. If the programme changes, we confirm a revised quote before it applies.
