Quick answer
Before an overnight fit-out, confirm the loading dock booking, the route from dock to work area, the narrowest door and the floor, where the machine will charge, and who receives and hands it over each shift. Send those details with your dates so the machine and the delivery window can be planned together.
The short answer
Night fit-outs in shopping centres and occupied stores run on tight windows. Most problems come from the building, not the machine: a dock that is not booked, a door narrower than expected or nowhere to charge. Sort these out with the centre management before you book the machine.
Information to get from the building manager
| Item | Who confirms it | Record it as |
|---|---|---|
| Loading dock booking and truck size allowed | Centre or building management | Date, time window, maximum vehicle |
| Route from dock to tenancy | Building management, your site lead | Photos plus narrowest width in mm |
| Lowest door head or ceiling on the route | Your site lead | Clear height in mm |
| Floor protection required | Building management | Type, for example boards or mats |
| Floor loading limits | Building owner or their engineer | Written limit, if one applies |
| Power outlet for charging | Tenancy electrician or building management | Location and outlet type |
| Where the machine is parked by day | Building management | Location, and whether it must leave the mall |
Choosing the machine
Retail work is usually on a finished floor indoors, so an electric scissor lift with non-marking tyres is the starting point. Where the route has a standard doorway, check a narrow scissor lift against your measured width. The access guide lists what to measure.
Delivery and collection timing
Tell us the dock window when you ask for a quote. Out-of-hours delivery depends on the window, the truck and our schedule, so we confirm it with the quote rather than promise it in advance. Allow time for the machine to be unloaded and moved through the centre before the shift starts.
Shift handover checklist
- Machine on charge at the end of every shift, at the agreed outlet
- Platform lowered, keys removed and stored where the next shift knows
- Any fault reported to us before the next shift, not worked around
- Floor protection back in place under the parking position
- Operator familiarisation for anyone new on the next shift
Charging details are in the charging guide.
A planning example
This is a hypothetical example, not a completed job. A shopfitter has four nights to install bulkheads at 4.5 m in a mall tenancy. The dock is bookable from 10 pm, the corridor has an 850 mm door, and there is a 10 A outlet in the tenancy. That points to a narrow electric scissor lift, delivered on night one, charged in the tenancy each morning, collected after night four.
Send the suburb, shift dates, work height, the narrowest door and the dock window.
