Five minutes with a tape measure prevents almost every failed delivery. These are the measurements we ask for, why they matter and the numbers that decide which machines fit your site.
What is the difference between working height and platform height?
Platform height is where the platform floor stops. Working height adds about 2 metres for the operator standing and reaching. Machine names usually quote platform height in feet, so a 19ft scissor works at about 7.8 m.
How do I measure the height I need?
Measure to the task, not the ceiling: the underside of the beam, the light fitting, the top of the racking. Then pick a machine whose working height covers it with a little margin, rather than one you must stretch from.
What width fits through a doorway?
A standard single door opening is about 0.82 m. Machines 0.76 to 0.81 m wide fit; anything wider needs double doors, roller doors or gate access. Measure the tightest opening on the whole route.
Does floor loading matter?
On suspended floors, mezzanines and old slabs, yes. A small electric scissor weighs around 1.5 tonnes concentrated on four small wheels. If the floor has a load limit, tell us and we will check the machine against it.
How much aisle width does a scissor need?
The machine width plus comfortable clearance: for a 0.81 m machine plan on about a metre of clear aisle. Tight warehouse aisles are exactly what narrow electric scissors are built for.
What overhead clearance is needed?
Check the stowed height of the machine against every opening it passes under: doorways, awnings, services and ducts. Most compact scissors stow under 2 m with rails up or folded.
What slope can machines handle?
Slab electric scissors need close to level ground. Rough terrain and tracked machines carry rated slope limits, and bi-levelling tracked models self-level within them. Measure or estimate the grade and include it in your enquiry.
What should I check at the gate?
Opening width, ground surface, any step or kerb, and turning room inside. A machine that fits the gate but cannot turn behind it still cannot reach the work.
