Quick answer: a tracked (crawler) scissor lift solves access problems — soft lawns, pavers, narrow gates, uneven or sloped paths — by spreading its weight over rubber tracks and then levelling itself on outrigger legs to work. It is slower than a wheeled machine and usually can’t drive while elevated, so hire it when the route to the work is the problem, not to save time on flat slab.
What a tracked scissor lift is
Take a compact scissor platform, replace the wheels with rubber crawler tracks, add self-levelling outrigger legs, and you have a machine that travels where wheels sink, slip or damage the surface. Why tracks beat wheels on bad ground
- Contact pressure. Weight spreads along the whole track instead of four small tyre patches — the ZS0612C puts 1,820kg over two full-length crawlers, so it crosses lawns, pavers and sensitive surfaces wheels would rut or crack.
- Obstacle crossing. Tracks climb kerbs, hoses, and broken ground; gradeability is 30% (17°) for travel.
- Traction on slopes and wet grass where drive wheels spin.

What levelling actually solves
Wheeled scissors demand near-level ground — their tilt cut-out stops elevation on modest slopes. A tracked machine parks on the slope, then its outriggers take over and level the platform before it lifts. That converts sloped driveways, garden beds and uneven yards into workable positions. Two catches: the legs need solid bearing (use pads/spreader plates on soft ground), and levelling range is finite — 12°/7° on the ZS0612C, not a hillside.
The limits nobody mentions
- No drive at height. The ZS0612C travels at 2 km/h stowed and 0 km/h raised — every reposition means lowering, moving, re-levelling. Long runs of repetitive work (a warehouse lighting row) are faster on a wheeled machine.
- Slower everywhere. 2 km/h travel and outrigger cycles add minutes per set-up.
- Tracks don’t fix bad ground bearing. Lower contact pressure helps, but trenches, voids, saturated fill and suspended slabs still need assessment — see Ground Conditions for Access Equipment.
- Capacity is compact-class: 230kg (113kg on the extension) — two people outdoors on the ZS0612C, not a materials hoist.
Tracked vs rough-terrain scissor
Both handle “outdoors”; they solve different problems. The diesel RT (our LGMG SR1018D) is bigger, faster, higher (11.7m working height) and carries 454kg — but it’s 1.79m wide, 4,330kg and diesel.
