Overview

About the Genie Z-40/23N RJ Articulating Boom Lift

The Genie Z-40/23N RJ is a narrow battery-electric articulating boom lift: 14.32m working height, 12.32m platform height, 6.91m horizontal reach and 6.48m up-and-over clearance, on a 1.50m wide chassis. A 48V DC pack (eight 6V 350Ah batteries) drives a 29V three-phase AC drive system — no exhaust, low noise, and an inside turning radius of just 0.87m. The 1.22m jib works through 128 degrees vertically and 90 degrees horizontally; the platform rotates 180 degrees and the turntable 355 degrees non-continuous. 227kg platform capacity.

Where it works

Best-fit jobs and sites

  • High access on finished or noise-sensitive sites, atriums and plant rooms, working over obstacles where a 1.5m wide machine is the only one that fits.

Good to confirm: Electric drive with 30% gradeability — firm, reasonably level ground. Confirm slab loading before taking it inside. An online listing cannot replace a site assessment, so tell us the job and we will confirm suitability.

Transport

Getting it to site

Swipe

Delivered by us

Quoted by suburb, machine and access. We plan the truck, the unloading space and any overhead hazards before the run, tell us about docks, tight driveways and height limits when you book.

Customer pickup, confirmation required

Customer pickup has not been confirmed for this machine. Delivery is always available and is quoted together with the hire; if you would rather collect, ask the team and they will confirm whether a trailer combination is approved for it.

Logistics

Delivery, access and running

What we need from you, and what we take care of.

Swipe

Delivery

Quoted by suburb, site access and transport requirements, the machine and the delivery are quoted together for your dates.

Tightest access width

Tell us the narrowest gate, doorway or gap the machine must pass through and we will confirm the fit before it is loaded.

Licence and competency

Boom-type EWP. A WP-class high-risk work licence is required in NSW where the boom length is 11m or more; harness with lanyard mandatory in the basket.

Hire period

Hire runs from delivery or pickup until off-hire is confirmed. Rates are quoted for your dates, suburb and machine together, see our hire terms for responsibilities during the hire.

Not sure it will fit?

Send your suburb, your dates and the tightest access width. We will confirm the machine and quote the delivery with it.

Power

Charging this machine

Battery electric, charged from a normal household power point.

Swipe

Batteries

48V DC (eight 6V 350Ah batteries), 30A smart charger

Maintenance-free batteries

Sealed and maintenance free: no topping up with water, no battery servicing to arrange during your hire.

Charges from a normal 10 amp wall plug

The charger is onboard. Plug it into any standard 10 A / 240 V power point, no three-phase, no site power upgrade and no separate charger to hire.

Overnight charge, full day’s work

About 8 hours from flat. Runtime on the day depends on battery condition, drive distance and lift cycles, so tell us if the job runs long shifts.

Keeping it charged on site

  • Confirm a live, accessible power point near where the machine parks overnight. A machine left away from power starts tomorrow flat.
  • Plug in at the end of every shift, not “when it gets low”. Topping up at breaks helps on heavy days.
  • Charge in a ventilated area and keep the charger and lead dry.
  • Zero emissions and quiet running, so it suits indoor, occupied and after-hours work.

Safety

Pre-start checks, every day

Every Equip Hire machine is function-tested before it leaves the yard. The operator still checks it before each shift, tick these off as you go.

What counts as the record

Ticking here is a memory aid on your phone, nothing is stored. The machine’s own logbook and pre-start check sheet are the record. Based on the manufacturer’s daily check requirements and SafeWork NSW guidance for this kind of equipment.

Licence: the boom-length rule

In NSW a WP-class high-risk work licence is required to operate a boom-type platform with a boom length of 11 metres or more. The threshold is the boom length, not the working height or the platform height. Below it, the operator must still be trained (EWPA Yellow Card, boom class). A harness on a short lanyard is required in the basket at any boom length.

Site prep

Before it arrives

Five minutes of checking here is what keeps a delivery from becoming a return trip.

Swipe

1

Measure the route, not the door

Every gate, corridor and lift on the way to the work area. Handles, hinges, bollards and stored materials all eat clearance.

2

Confirm the floor

A ground-bearing slab is fine. Suspended slabs, mezzanines and raised floors need the wheel loads checked against the floor rating.

3

Plan the set-up and the swing

Firm, level ground where the machine stands, room for the tail swing and the counterweight, and the basket path drawn from that spot to the work: up, over and back in.

4

Power lines and wind

Keep the boom outside the exclusion zone for overhead lines and know the machine’s wind rating before you book an exposed job.

5

Make delivery space

Room for the truck to stop and unload safely. Tell us about docks, driveways and height limits when you book.

6

Find the power point

A live outlet near overnight parking so every day starts on a full charge.

Avoid

Mistakes we see weekly

The things that most often send a machine back or hold up a job.

Swipe

Booking on ceiling height

Measure to the actual task height, then choose the machine. Nothing added “just in case”.

Using the nominal door size

An 820 mm door leaf is not 820 mm of clear opening once the stop and hardware are counted. Measure the gap.

Sizing on working height alone

A boom is chosen on outreach at the height you need. The envelope chart, not the headline figure, tells you whether the basket gets there.

Skipping the harness

A harness on a short lanyard is required in a boom basket every time it moves, at any boom length.

Leaving inductions to delivery morning

Shopping centres and managed sites need the paperwork approved before the truck arrives.
