# Picking Up a Scissor Lift with a Plant Trailer: Rules and Requirements

> Canonical page: https://equiphire.com.au/transporting-scissor-lift-trailer/. Last updated 26 October 2026.

Quick answer: customer pickup is available only for the machine and trailer packages we have approved for it, not for every machine. Each equipment category page lists the approved packages under "Or you collect", and each package page states the machine, the trailer and the weights. Before you book, the machine and trailer together must sit within the trailer's rating, your vehicle's braked towing capacity and its tow ball limit. If any number fails, the answer is delivery.

## Which machines can be collected

Approved packages pair a specific machine with a specific trailer. They can include narrow and tracked machines as well as 19ft electrics, depending on the weights. A machine without an approved package is delivered. Browse the category pages, such as electric scissor lifts, narrow scissor lifts and tracked scissor lifts, to see the current packages.

## Loaded mass and vehicle limits

- Machine weight: on the machine page, from the manufacturer specification sheet.
- Trailer rating (ATM): machine plus trailer tare must sit under the trailer's aggregate trailer mass.
- Vehicle braked towing capacity: from your vehicle handbook or compliance plate. Many utes tow 3.5 t braked; many SUVs tow less.
- Tow ball download: within your vehicle's and tow bar's limit.
- Gross combination mass (GCM): vehicle, load, passengers, trailer and machine together within the vehicle's GCM.

If any number fails, it is delivery, because the failure mode is a machine on the road.

## Licence and equipment

Check that your licence class covers the vehicle and trailer combination; Transport for NSW sets the classes. You need a suitable coupling, working trailer brakes and lights, and rated tie-down gear.

## Loading and tie-down

Drive on slowly and centred, with the machine stowed. Tie down at the machine's designated lashing points with rated chains or straps, as the machine's manual sets out, and recheck the tension after the first few kilometres. Ask us to show you the tie-down at the depot on your first pickup.

## When pickup beats delivery

Flexible timing, a suitable tow vehicle, and a job near your route. When any of those is missing, delivery quoted for your suburb is the better answer.
