# Electric Scissor Lift Hire: Sizing and Charging

> Canonical page: https://equiphire.com.au/electric-scissor-lift-hire-guide/. Last updated 26 October 2026.

Quick answer: an electric scissor lift suits indoor and hard-standing work: fit-outs, warehouses, retail and occupied buildings, where it runs quietly with no exhaust. Choose the exact model by working height, the narrowest point on the route, total platform load, its outdoor rating and where it will charge overnight. Outdoor ratings differ by model, so check the machine, not the class.

## When electric is the right choice

Electric slab scissor lifts run on solid non-marking tyres with low ground clearance. They need a firm, smooth, level surface and are not built for gravel, grass, trenches or sloping yards. If the work area or the route to it is outdoors and uneven, we assess the site first: depending on the ground, slope, height and access, that may mean a tracked scissor lift (within its levelling limits), a rough terrain scissor lift, or ground preparation before any machine arrives. Send us the ground and the slope or a photo.

## Check these five things

- Working height against the height of the work. See working height vs platform height.
- Width against the narrowest door, lift or aisle on the route. See width and site access checks.
- Platform load for the combined weight of people, tools and materials, and the separate extension deck limit. This is the rated load, not the machine's own weight.
- Outdoor rating. Some models are indoor only, and some carry fewer people or less load outdoors. It is on the machine's decal and in the manual.
- Charging supply. Where the machine will be parked overnight and which outlet it will use.

## Electric machines on the current fleet

Each machine page links its manufacturer specification sheet, which is where these figures come from.

## Model differences indoors and outdoors

Two machines in the same height class can differ in width, weight, platform load and outdoor rating. Two examples from our records:

- JLG ES1932: 7.8 m working height, 0.81 m wide, 230 kg on the platform and 120 kg on its 0.9 m roll-out deck, 1,550 kg. Limited outdoor rating: smooth, firm surfaces only.
- LGMG S1212E-2: 14 m working height, 1.19 m wide, 320 kg on the platform and 120 kg on its extension deck, 2,940 kg. Limited outdoor rating, hard standing only.

Narrow models fit more doorways but often carry less. Heavier machines need more care on suspended floors; see machine weight and floor loading. If outdoor use matters, tell us before we quote so we can check the rating on the actual unit.

## Confirm the charging supply

The ES1932 and S1212E-2, for example, charge from an onboard charger plugged into a standard 240 V outlet (the ES1932's charger is rated 27 A on its specification sheet). We confirm the charger and supply for your machine at quote. Plan an overnight charge where the machine is parked, on an outlet that is not shared with heavy site loads, and keep the lead route clear. Runtime depends on how much the machine drives and lifts, so a day of constant travel uses more charge than a day mostly parked at height. See charging an electric scissor lift on site.
